Eric Wellwood (born March 6, 1990 in Windsor , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach who played 42 games for the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League in the course of his active career between 2006 and 2013 left winger has denied. His older brother Kyle Wellwood was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Eric Wellwood began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with the Windsor Spitfires , for which he was active from 2006 to 2010 in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League . With the team he won the J. Ross Robertson Cup , the OHL championship title, and then the Memorial Cup , the final tournament for the Canadian Hockey League championship, in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons . During his time with the Spitfires, the winger was also selected in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round as a total of 172 players by the Philadelphia Flyers .
For the Flyers he came in the 2010/11 season to three missions in the National Hockey League , where he prepared a goal. The entire remaining season he spent with Philadelphia's farm team Adirondack Phantoms in the American Hockey League . There he scored 28 scorer points in 73 games, including 16 goals. The Canadian also played for both teams in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons. On April 7, 2013, he suffered a serious injury to his left leg in the AHL game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , which made him miss the 2013/14 season completely and ultimately led to him in May 2014 at the age of 24 announced his retirement from active sport.
Already during the 2013/14 season Wellwood helped out in the coaching staff of his former junior team Windsor Spitfires in the OHL as an assistant coach. After his resignation, he held the same position for two years with the Oshawa Generals and then with the Flint Firebirds for one year .
