Erich Fromm Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Erich Fromm Prize has been awarded annually by the International Erich Fromm Society since 1995 . The award is to be made to people "who, with their scientific, social, socio-political or journalistic commitment, have or are doing outstanding work in maintaining or regaining humanistic thinking and acting in the spirit of Erich Fromm ". The award, which was called the International Erich Fromm Prize until 2004 , is endowed with 10,000 euros (since 2006).

background

The winners are selected by a majority decision of a five-person jury appointed by the expanded board of the International Erich Fromm Society. The jury is free to choose, but it must include applications and recommendations for the Erich Fromm Prize in its decision-making. Applications and recommendations must be received by the office of the International Erich Fromm Society by April 1st.

The award ceremony is not only intended to honor a humanistic commitment in the spirit of Erich Fromm. It also serves to make the legacy of Erich Fromm known to the public and to keep it in memory. It therefore usually takes place in public.
