Erich Brüggemann
Erich Brüggemann (born June 24, 1928 in Winsen (Luhe) ; † September 28, 2019 there ) was a German artist.
Life
Erich Brüggemann was born in Winsen an der Luhe in 1928 . His parents were farm workers . When he was five years old, he had to remain isolated in the hospital because of his scarlet fever disease. Since no one was allowed to visit him, his mother sent him a drawing pad and colored pencils. It was there that his artistic talent was first discovered and promoted from then on. Erich Brüggemann took on his first commissioned work at the age of twelve. In 1942 he began an apprenticeship as a sculptor with the wood sculptor Karl Schlumbohm in Winsen , after his mother had shown him some of the boy's drawings. Shortly before the end of the war, the then 16-year-old was sent to the front and wounded in an attack.
After the Second World War he studied art in Wetzlar from 1948 to 1949 . Between 1952 and 1954 he trained as a restorer at the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and studied drawing and modeling at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . During this time Brüggemann took on the first restoration orders. Shortly afterwards he returned to his north German homeland, where he bought a farmhouse on Stöckter Deich in Winsen in 1961 and converted it into a workshop. At first he mainly worked as a restorer for church inventory, until the 1980s he also created his own works for newly built churches. He also took on orders for town halls and Hamburg museums. Since 1985 Brüggemann has been involved in the production of exquisite furniture, including chairs, tables and cupboards, and with artistic inlay work in the tradition of the Winsen Elbmarsch . He was an instructor at the Academy of Crafts. At the 1965 World Exhibition in Munich, Erich Brüggemann represented the German carpentry trade.
