Erich Fliegner

Erich Fliegner (born March 22, 1891 in Freystadt , † April 2, 1971 in Siegen ) was a German choir director and choral society official.

Life

Fliegner was born in Freystadt in Lower Silesia in Prussia as the son of the conductor Hugo Fliegner (1864–?) And Emilie Herberg (1860–?). He attended the Progymnasium in Neusalz , the Realgymnasium in Grünberg and the Realreformgymnasium in Görlitz . He then studied philology at the Universities of Münster , Munich and Paris and received his doctorate in Münster in 1920 with a thesis on the history of bifang .

After participating in the war , he worked as a high school teacher in Siegen from 1919 . At the same time he studied music and music theory at the Cologne City Conservatory (1919–1921) and with Friedrich Wilhelm Franke (1921–1924). Since 1920 he was active, mainly in Siegen, as a singer, choir and vocal director and as a functionary also within the choral society. From 1922 to 1926 he was the conductor and choirmaster of the Cäcilia choir , from 1923 of the Glückauf district club , from 1924 of the Mozart men's choir and from 1926 of the men's choir of the Siegen district . From 1928 to 1954 he headed the Siegerland district association of the German Singers' Association, which was founded as Sängergau Siegerland . He performed with regional choirs at major events such as the Festival of the German Singers' Association in Breslau in 1937. He was a member of the Association of Former Hunters and Riflemen and was temporarily its second chairman.

At the same time he was active in numerous political associations, but especially since the Nazi takeover of power: In the 1920s he was a member of the DVP and the Stahlhelm . In 1933 he joined the NSDAP and the following year joined the SA , where he was appointed troop leader. He joined the SS , the Association for Germanness Abroad and the Reich Colonial League . He was represented on the board of the Siegerland NSLB . He was a member of the National Socialist Reich Warrior League. After the end of National Socialism, he was chairman of the regional organization of the Kuratorium Indivisible Germany for many years .

Honors

Fliegner was awarded the letter of honor of the city of Siegen, the coat of arms plate of the district of Siegen and the ring of honor of the German Singers Association, for which he worked as a judge, among other things. In 1968 he received the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany.

In 1967 the Siegener Zeitung called him “the loyal Ekkehard of Siegerland cultural life in general”. Lothar Irle included it in 1974 in his Siegerland Personalities and Gender Lexicon .

His ethnic ties before and after 1933 were never discussed or even mentioned after 1945.
