Erich Rübensam

Erich Rübensam (born May 18, 1922 in Jaasde ; † December 2, 2016 in Waldsieversdorf ) was a German agricultural scientist and politician ( SED ). For many years he was president of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the GDR (AdL).

Life

Rübensam was born as the son of a farmer in the Kolberg-Körlin district in the Pomerania province. He attended elementary school and from 1936 to 1941 received an agricultural education at the agricultural school in Kolberg . On September 1, 1940, he joined the NSDAP . From 1941 he did military service in the Wehrmacht . He was seriously wounded in September 1944 and as a sergeant in the 94th Grenadier Regiment was taken prisoner by the Soviets .

In December 1945 he was released to Mecklenburg in the Soviet occupation zone . He found work as a farm laborer in Mönchhagen , where his parents found shelter after the war. After passing a gifted test, he was able to study agricultural sciences at the University of Rostock from 1946 to 1949 and became a qualified farmer . In June 1949 he became a candidate and in 1951 a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). Just ten months after graduating, he was in 1950 at the Agricultural Faculty of the University of Rostock Dr. agr. PhD. In 1951 he received a teaching position for agricultural planning at the University of Rostock. From 1951 to 1967 he was director of the Institute for Arable and Plant Production Müncheberg of the German Academy of Agricultural Sciences (DAL).

From 1954 he was a candidate and from January 1963 to 1989 a member of the Central Committee of the SED . When the Grotewohl government was reorganized , at the second meeting of the Council of Ministers on November 26, 1954, he was appointed Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Forestry of the GDR . Rübensam held this office until 1959. Then he was from May 15, 1959 to 1962 professor with a teaching position at the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 1960 to 1965 he was deputy head of the Agriculture Department of the Central Committee of the SED. From 1963 to 1968 Rübensam was Vice President and then from May 31, 1968 to October 9, 1987 President of the DAL or AdL (successor to Hans Stubbe ), then its honorary president until its dissolution in 1990. From January 17, 1974 he was president of the friendship society GDR-Algeria.

Rübensam was married and the father of three sons. He last lived in Waldsieversdorf and died at the age of 94.
