Erich Thilo

Erich Rudolf Julius Thilo (born August 27, 1898 in Neubrandenburg , † June 25, 1977 in East Berlin ) was a German chemist .

Live and act

Erich Thilo studied chemistry at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin and received his doctorate in 1925 with a thesis on nickel diacetyldioxime and its derivatives. After initially being a private lecturer at Berlin University, he was appointed associate professor for inorganic chemistry there in 1938. In 1943 he received a chair for inorganic chemistry at the University of Graz . In 1946 he returned to Berlin and taught at the Humboldt University until his retirement in 1967. He was also director of the Institute for Inorganic Chemistry at the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin from 1950 to 1967 . In 1953 he was elected first chairman of the GDR Chemical Society . Since 1949 he was a member of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR. Thilo worked specifically in the field of inorganic high- silicate- based polymers . In 1961 he was awarded the GDR First Class National Prize for this work .

honors and awards

A street was named after him on the grounds of the Science and Technology Park ( WISTA ) in Berlin-Adlershof in 2002.
