Erik Martin (born January 12, 1936 in Neuss ; † April 25, 2017 ) was a German author , songwriter and publisher .

Life

Erik Martin grew up in Kaldenkirchen as the first-born son of the dentist and dendrologist couple Illa and Ernst J. Martin . The valuer and valuation expert for trees and shrubs Helge Breloer was his sister. He attended the Aloisius College in Bad Godesberg and did his Abitur at the Thomaeum grammar school in Kempen. After studying in Aachen, he worked as a German and biology teacher in Viersen for a long time. He planted school gardens and carried out nature conservation projects together with the German Forest Youth . B. a bat resettlement program in the Kaldenkirchener Grenzwald . In 1997 he received the Klaus Gundelach Prize of the German Forest Protection Association for his services to nature conservation and his book for young people, Fjellwanderung .

From 1969 to 2008 Martin (with a twelve-year break) was the editor and editor of the Muschelhaufen , an annual publication for literature and graphics. In it he gave u. a. Authors that have already been forgotten (e.g. Albert Vigoleis Thelen , Margot Scharpenberg and Fritz Graßhoff ) in detailed special sections on space and new reviews. Renowned authors such as Günter Kunert , Siegfried Lenz , Annemarie Schimmel and Ernst Jandl made first publications available to him. Martin dealt intensively with the work of the writer Werner Helwig , about whom he wrote important publications.

Martin's songs are sung intensively by groups from the Bündische Jugend and the German scout movement . Among other things, he wrote the songs When the Evening Comes and The Piet on the Gallows . Martin himself led groups under the name Mac for a long time , which belonged to this movement, worked for the magazine der eisbrecher for a few years and was close to the German Forest Youth, for whom he also worked with a number of publications. The forest youth brought out two CDs with his songs.

Erik Martin was a member of the Burg Waldeck working group . Since 2011 he has led dendrological tours through the Arboretum Sequoiafarm Kaldenkirchen . He was married, had two sons and lived in Viersen-Dülken .
