The built in 1905 and United Methodist Church of the Redeemer is a rear building on the farm in the Schröderstraße 5 in Berlin district center of the district of the same . Together with the residential building , which was also designed by Carl Breuer and integrated into the closed perimeter block development of the street, it is a listed building .

history

On February 3, 1887, the first branch of the Bethesda Sisters, an Evangelical Methodist Diakoniewerk , was founded in Berlin. Because of their missionary zeal, the annual conference of the Evangelical Community in Stuttgart in 1888 decided to form a district in Berlin and to send a preacher . Before the Savior Church was completed which found services of the Methodist faith community held in different rooms. Since the free church community did not receive any funds from the Protestant regional church in Prussia or from the public administration , a church building association had to collect this through donations.

Building description

The architect uses in his style on historicist forms the north German brick Gothic back. In this respect, the design differs significantly from that of the neighboring buildings and emphasizes the function of the building . The two-story hall church is located in the courtyard behind a five -story residential building and is therefore not visible from the street. The masonry structures are faced with clinker bricks. The design of the facade of the front building suggests a church. Bay windows extend over three upper floors on both sides of the passage . In their area, a pointed helmet grows out of the saddle roof . The U-shaped courtyard building with two side wings facing the front building has apartments on the first two floors of the transverse wing . Above this is that covered with a cross roof nave with four yokes , by four large windows for adventure playground on the other hand highlighted the Heinrich Zille parks on the mountain road, only two to the courtyard, as are the cross-tracts in the area of the side yokes.
