Ernest Palmer (cameraman, 1885)
Ernest Palmer (born December 6, 1885 in Kansas City , Missouri , † February 22, 1978 in Pacific Palisades , California ) was an American cameraman .
Life
Ernest Palmer began his career as a cameraman in 1918 and initially worked for various production companies such as Metro Pictures Corporation and Louis B. Mayer Pictures , until he received a permanent contract with Fox Film Corporation in 1924 , which merged with 20th Century Pictures to form 20th Century Fox in 1935 . Over the years, Palmer has worked with a number of high-profile directors including Victor Fleming , FW Murnau , Henry King , John Ford , Otto Preminger, and Delmer Daves .
In 1930 he was nominated for the Oscar for the best cameraman for the two films Engel der Strasse (1928) and Vier Teufel (1928) . In 1942 he received the trophy together with Ray Rennahan for Rouben Mamoulian's bullfighting drama King of the Toreros (1941) in the category Best Camera / Color . For Delmer Daves' western The Broken Arrow (1950), Palmer was nominated again for an Oscar and also received a Golden Globe nomination.
In 1960 Ernest Palmer retired from the film business. He died in 1978 in Pacific Palisades at the age of 92 and was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale , California.
