Ernst Wilhelm Büchner (born March 18, 1850 in Pfungstadt , † April 25, 1925 in Darmstadt ) was a German chemist .

Life

His father was the pharmacist and politician Wilhelm Büchner , his uncle the writer Georg Büchner . Büchner studied chemistry in Tübingen . In his dissertation he dealt with the decomposition of chlorobromaniline. In 1882 Ernst Büchner took over the management of the family business. In 1890 he incorporated the Pfungstadt plant into the "United Ultramarine Factories ". The establishment of this cartel was the reaction to the emerging " tar paint chemistry ", whose further upswing finally led to the company going out in 1893.

Büchner was married to his cousin Mathilda Büchner (*  January 6, 1850 -  April 1, 1908 ) and had two children with her, the chemist Carl Büchner (*  June 28, 1877 ; †  July 9, 1929 ) and the Painter Friedrich (Fritz) Büchner (  April 1, 1880June 22, 1965 ). After the divorce in 1885 he married Marie Ludovike Karoline von Ferber (*  August 6, 1850, †  April 20, 1925 ). From this marriage comes Anton Büchner (*  July 28, 1887 , †  August 27, 1985 ), the first biographer of the Büchner siblings.
