Ernst Hoffmann (Grand Dean)
Ernst Hoffmann (born January 4, 1840 in Ebersdorf , Habelschwerdt district , province of Silesia , † June 25, 1889 in Prague ) was a German theologian and pastor of Neurode from 1883 . From 1878 to 1881 he was administrator and 1883-1889 United dean and vicar of up to 1972 Archdiocese of Prague belonging Glatz .
Life
Ernst Hoffmann was the son of a tailor. With financial support from benefactors, he attended the Royal High School in Glatz . He then studied theology at the University of Wroclaw . On July 4, 1863, he was the Wrocław Prince-Bishop Heinrich Förster for priests ordained. He then worked for several years as a chaplain in Neurode.
After the death of the great dean Franz Brand , a successor could not be determined by the Prague Archbishop Friedrich zu Schwarzenberg due to the regulations of the Kulturkampf in Prussia . The appointment was not wanted by the Prussian authorities. They also endeavored to restrict contact with Prague and to incorporate the County of Glatz into the Prussian diocese of Breslau . Therefore Cardinal Schwarzenberg only appointed Ernst Hoffmann as administrator . The job description "Deputy who fulfills the duties of a dean" was tacitly accepted by the Prussian government. Only in 1881, after further efforts by Archbishop Schwarzenberg, did she agree to the appointment of the Rengersdorf pastor Franz Nitschke as grand dean and vicar, who died two years later.
On October 25, 1883, Cardinal Schwarzenberg appointed the former administrator Ernst Hoffmann to succeed the deceased Grand Dean and Vicar Ernst Nitschke. It was not until December 27 of the same year that he was introduced as pastor in Neurode.
Because of a serious illness, Ernst Hoffmann sought healing in Karlsbad in 1889 . Since his condition there worsened, he left a few days later. On June 25, 1889, he died on his way home in the Convent of the Brothers of Mercy in Prague. The burial in the crypt of the Neurod parish church of St. Nikolaus took place on July 1st of that year.
