Ernst Kunsemüller

Ernst Kunsemüller (born June 24, 1885 in Rehme ; † April 25, 1918 in Düsseldorf ) was a German conductor , pianist and composer .

Life

Ernst Adolf Johannes Kunsemüller was the son of a pastor and - after attending grammar schools in Gütersloh and Detmold - initially studied theology for a few semesters, then history, German and philosophy in Bonn and Berlin . In 1909 he obtained his doctorate in Bonn. phil. He then studied piano, music theory, conducting and composition at the Cologne Conservatory with Carl Friedberg , Franz Bölsche and Fritz Steinbach . From 1910 he was director of an a cappella choir in Neuss am Rhein. In 1912 he went to Kiel , where he became the conductor of the Kiel VDM concerts and the Kiel Choral Society. In 1914 he was appointed Academic Music Director at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . Kunsemüller volunteered for military service in mid-1915 and took part in the First World War . He died of gunshot wounds in a Düsseldorf hospital in 1918.
