life and work

Reiter was born in Wertheim as the son of Hofkammerrat Franz Reiter (1772–1839), and his wife Babette, b. Milon, born. Ernst Reiter's compositions include numerous songs, chamber music , a mass and psalm settings, as well as the oratorio “Das neue Paradies” from 1845 and the opera “Die Fee von Elvershöh” from 1865. On festive occasions he also wrote music for patriotic festivals.
