Ernst Retzlaff

Ernst August Ludwig Retzlaff (born January 9, 1902 in Freienwalde in Pomerania , † October 15, 1934 in Neustrelitz ) was a German lawyer and politician . He was mayor of the city of Neubrandenburg (1933–1934).

Life

Ernst Retzlaff was born the son of a businessman and farmer . After attending the Oberrealschule in Stargard and the Oberrealschule Steglitz , interrupted by four years of participation in the First World War , he studied history and law in Berlin and Marburg . During his studies he became a member of the Normannia Berlin fraternity in 1921 . In 1929 he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD . Since 1923 he was a member of the Black Reichswehr . Since 1925 he was a member of the Nazi party and last SS - lieutenant .

From 1933 until his death, Retzlaff was mayor of the city of Neubrandenburg. During his short term of office he was committed to the goals of the NSDAP, successfully fought unemployment in Neubrandenburg, campaigned for tourism and promoted culture. During his tenure in 1933, construction began on the Trollenhagen air base . Retzlaff was also a member of the supervisory board of Überlandzentrale Neubrandenburg AG.

Ernst Retzlaff, who had been married since September 1933, died after attending a theater performance in Neustrelitz in the Carolinenstift Neustrelitz of the consequences of kidney poisoning. He was buried in the presence of numerous representatives from the state and society in the New Cemetery in Neubrandenburg. In addition to Neubrandenburg, flags were also half-masted in Neustrelitz. His tomb has been preserved and is a listed building.
