Ernst Rexer

Ernst Rexer (born April 2, 1902 in Stuttgart , † May 14, 1983 in Dresden ) was a German physicist.

Life

Rexer studied chemistry and physics at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg im Breisgau , graduating in 1926. He then worked at Osram in research in Weißwasser . In 1929 he received his doctorate at the Humboldt University in Berlin and was then assistant at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of Halle , where he completed his habilitation in 1936. Since 1932 he was a member of the NSDAP and deputy Gau Lecturer League Leader in Gau Halle-Merseburg . In 1938 he went into the arms industry. During the Second World War he was involved in the uranium project, including the reactor tests in Gottow by Kurt Diebner (review of the theoretical calculations by Karl-Heinz Höcker on various geometric forms of the nuclear fuel arrangement with Heinz Pose ). His experiments with Pose showed an advantage for a cube arrangement of the nuclear fuel in the moderator. In 1944 Rexer became a professor at the University of Leipzig .

After the war he was deported with Pose to the Soviet Union , where he worked on the Soviet atomic bomb project. He was in Laboratory 5 in Obninsk . In 1956 he returned to Germany and became associate professor at the TU Dresden and director of the laboratory for the application of radioactive isotopes.

In 1982 he was awarded the Star of Friendship of Nations in silver.
