Carl Ernst Weise (born March 3, 1843 in Schönbrunn ; † March 19, 1941 ) was a German teacher and geologist .

Life

For a long time there were uncertainties about the place of birth of Weise, which could only be resolved in 1983. He was born as the son of the cottage trader, weaver and day laborer Johann Gottfried Weise in Schönbrunn near Großhennersdorf , today a district of Herrnhut . Ernst Weise attended elementary school in neighboring Großhennersdorf and was confirmed in the local church in 1851. At Easter 1858 he was accepted into the proseminar and in 1859 into the school teacher seminar in Bautzen , where he successfully passed the Abitur in 1863. In between he worked as vicar in Seifhennersdorf from December 1st to December 12th .

On April 2, 1863 he got his first job as an assistant teacher at the city school in Kamenz . In 1865 he successfully passed the electoral ability test there.

In Plauen in the Saxon Vogtland , Ernst Weise received a permanent job on June 22, 1871 at the Royal Saxon Teachers' College, first as a senior teacher, then first teacher, and finally as professor. Plauen became the center of his life, where he developed into a well-known local geologist in the Saxon Vogtland . On April 1, 1910, he left the teachers' college in Plauen and continued to do his geological research until his death. In particular, he was particularly active in the geological survey of the state. As the first editor, he put together six sheets, and Ernst Weise revised another seven sheets. In revising the cards, Weise was supported by his son-in-law Alfred Uhlemann (1877–1957), who had also attended the Plauen teachers' seminar.

Honors

  • In 1928 he was made an honorary member of the Thuringian Geological Association for outstanding services in the field of geological research in Thuringia .
  • Ernst Weise was a founding and honorary member of the Plauen section of the German Alpine Club. At the age of 82 he climbed the Grossglockner . He especially liked and supported the Plauener Hütte in the Zillertal .
