Ernst Friedrich Alexander Reichsgraf Gianini, Marchese Carpêneto Suavio , briefly often Ernst Reichsgraf Giannini or Ernst Graf Gianini (born July 15, 1719 in Silesia , † March 7, 1775 in Vienna ) was an Austrian Lieutenant Field Marshal .

Life

Gianini came from an old Modenese family. His father Anton Gianini, an envoy in Vienna, was raised to the rank of imperial count in 1708 . On November 27, 1724, the family was accepted under the new gentry family. He began his military career in infantry regiment "Botta" No. 12. At the beginning of the Seven Years' War he had already advanced to lieutenant colonel . He was wounded in the Náchod skirmish on September 26, 1756 and was briefly captured. On his return he was promoted to colonel in April 1757 . During the siege of Olomouc he distinguished himself through his courage and was accordingly honored by Empress Maria Theresa with the 3rd doctorate with the small cross of the Military Maria Theresa Order .

At the beginning of the campaign in 1759 Gianini was Quartermaster General under Laudon and the following year he rose to Major General in 1760 . During the siege of Schweidnitz he was able to distinguish himself again in 1762, but was again taken prisoner of war . After his return on October 21, 1762, Gianini was awarded the Grand Cross of the Military Maria Theresa Order and promoted to Lieutenant General. He was also appointed director of the Austro-Hungarian Technical Military Academy .

Gianini died unmarried.
