Karl Erwin Gustav Gündert (born November 24, 1878 in Dürrheim , † May 29, 1945 in Mosbach ) was a German administrative lawyer and politician (DVP).

Life

As the son of a saline cashier, Gündert began to study law at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg after graduating from high school in 1898 . Active as a one-year volunteer in the Corps Rhenania Freiburg , he was reciprocated in 1899. When he was inactive , he moved to the University of Berlin . After completing his legal clerkship , he worked in the judicial and administrative service of the Grand Duchy of Baden from 1902 to 1905 . After passing the second state examination in law, he was a government assessor at administrative offices in Baden from 1905 to 1909 . From 1909 to 1911 he worked as a laborer at the Reich Insurance Office and the Reich Office of the Interior in Berlin . In 1911 he became an independent department head and chairman of the Oberversicherungsamt in Freiburg im Breisgau, and in January 1912 he became a municipal syndicate in Stettin . From 1914 to 1915 he took part in the First World War as a soldier , most recently as captain of the reserve in the 5th Baden Infantry Regiment No. 113 in the 29th Division (German Empire) .

Gündert had been an alderman for the city ​​of Mainz since August 1912 , where he was elected mayor in 1916 and first mayor (deputy mayor) in 1918. On December 3, 1919, he was elected Lord Mayor of Pforzheim . He took up this post on January 7, 1920 and held it until his resignation on March 13, 1933. During his tenure, the city budget was consolidated, the infrastructure expanded and housing promoted.

In addition to his work as Lord Mayor, he was a member of the state parliament of the Republic of Baden for the German People's Party from 1925 to 1929 .

Gündert was chairman of the board of directors of Sparkasse Pforzheim from 1927 to 1933 . From 1933 to 1945 he acted as director of the Badischer Sparkassen- und Giroverband and at the same time as chairman of the administrative board of Badische Kommunale Landesbank - Girozentrale, public bank and Pfandbriefanstalt Mannheim . In addition, he was a member of the Supervisory Board of Badische Bank from 1933 to 1935 . In 1933 he was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD .

From 1929 to 1940 he was a member of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society for the Advancement of Science . In 1943 he moved to Mosbach, where he died at the age of 66.

Erwin Gündert was born in 1908 with Luise. Bitzel married. The marriage produced a son and a daughter. He was a member of the Berlin Masonic Lodge Am Berge der Schönheit .
