Santa Isabel Cathedral in Malabo

The Erzbistum Malabo ( lat. : Archidioecesis Malaboensis ) is in Equatorial Guinea preferred Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Malabo .

It includes the equatorial Guinean island of Bioko . The ecclesiastical province of Malabo extends over the whole of Equatorial Guinea with the suffragan bishops Bata , Ebebiyin , Evinayong and Mongomo .

history

On October 10, 1855, the Vicariate Apostolic of Annobón , Corisco and Fernando Poo Islands was founded, which also included the present-day areas of Equatorial Guinea. On May 12, 1904, it was renamed the Vicariate Apostolic of Fernando Poo and existed until May 3, 1966, when it was elevated to a diocese under the name of Santa Isabel . From April 14, 1974, the diocese was named Malabo and was elevated to an archdiocese on October 15, 1982.

The episcopal church is the Cathedral of Santa Isabel (built 1897-1916) in Malabo . The cathedral, which was built in the Spanish Gothic style during the colonial era, was designed by Luis Segarra Llairadó .
