The Archdiocese of Pointe-Noire ( Latin Archidioecesis Nigrirostrensis , French archidiocèse de Pointe-Noire ) is in the Republic of Congo situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Pointe-Noire .

history

Pope Leo XIII. established the Apostolic Vicariate of Lower French Congo on October 14, 1890 from cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate of the French Congo . On April 22, 1907 the Apostolic Vicariate of Lower French Congo was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate Loango and on January 20, 1949 in the Apostolic Vicariate Pointe-Noire .

On September 14, 1955, the Vicariate Apostolic Pointe-Noire by Pope Pius XII. raised to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Dum tantis and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Brazzaville as a suffragan . The Diocese of Pointe-Noire gave up on December 5, 1983 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Nkayi .

Pope Francis elevated the diocese of Pointe-Noire to the rank of archbishopric and metropolitan seat on May 30, 2020 with the suffragan dioceses Dolisie and Nkayi .
