The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brazzaville ( Latin Archidioecesis Brazzapolitana , French archidiocèse de Brazzaville ) is in the Republic of Congo situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Brazzaville . It includes regions of the capital district of Brazzaville and the district of Ngaba in the department of Pool .

The ecclesiastical province of Brazzaville extends in addition to the Archdiocese of Brazzaville over the dioceses of Gamboma and Kinkala .

history

On June 4, 1886, a Vicariate Apostolic was established in Central Congo (part of the French colony of French Equatorial Africa ) . On October 14, 1890, it split into the Apostolic Vicariates of the Upper and Lower Congo. On June 14, 1922, the Apostolic Vicariate of the Upper Congo was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate of Brazzaville .

On September 14, 1955, the Vicariate Apostolic was elevated to the status of archdiocese.

As part of the reorganization of the ecclesiastical provinces, the dioceses of Pointe-Noire , Dolisie , Nkayi , Owando , Impfondo and Ouesso, previously subordinate to the Archdiocese of Brazzaville as suffragans, were spun off from the ecclesiastical province on May 30, 2020.
