It's on my tongue is a German television film from 2009. It was first broadcast on November 25, 2009 on ARD .

action

The film tells the life story of the first TV chef, Clemens Wilmenrod . At the beginning of the 1950s, the actor Carl Clemens Hahn lived in modest circumstances with his wife Erika. There is neither enough money for daily meals nor for rent. When his wife loses her job as a secretary and Hahn loses his theatrical engagement and on top of that shatters the hope of a film role, he has an idea for a television show. He convinces the TV director Bruns to produce a cooking show for the still young television. Bruns embraced this idea, and the actor Hahn became the first German television chef, Clemens Wilmenrod.

Although Wilmenrod never learned to cook, his cooking show became a resounding success and became a cult show of the 1950s. Wilmenrod is suddenly a star, and his wife Erika takes over the business. In addition to the income from the programs, she succeeds in concluding subsidiary contracts with companies whose products are advertised as surreptitious advertising in the program. She can convince a publisher to bring out a cookbook of Wilmenrod's recipes. The Wilmenrods rise socially and economically.

But success quickly has envious people too. So Wilmenrod is a conman accused and his recipes have been suspected of plagiarism . When his wife separates from him because of his constant affairs, his star begins to decline. The criticism of the increasingly obvious surreptitious advertising is getting louder. When Der Spiegel criticized this in a cover story, his career was about to end. Intendant Bruns resigned from his cooking show in the eleventh year. The fame quickly fades. Only his wife returns to him. He kills himself in the hospital with a stomach problem.

Reviews

“Unfortunately, the NDR film does not fully manage to work out the power of the poetic simplicity. Sure, Jan Josef Liefers, one of the most accomplished comedians that German television has to offer, plays his Wilmenrod with wonderful ambiguity, somewhere between corsetry and artistic genius. The deeper cause of the fast food poet's success is not clarified. "

- Spiegel-Online, November 25, 2009

“Tragic-comic biography [...], filmed by Kaspar Heidelbach with a lot of love for details and atmosphere of the 50s. Jan Josef Liefers with a cooking apron and pomade in his hair clearly has a lot of fun with the role. "
