Escara is a town in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Escara is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Escara in the province of Litoral and is located on the Bolivian Altiplano . Escara is located at an altitude of 3725 m on the eastern slope of a mountain range made up of two quaternary stratovolcanoes , the Pacha Kkollu Quimsa Misa (4702 m) in the northwest and the Inca Camacho (4792 m) in the east. Just east of the village of flowing Río Sabaya from north to south and flows 20 kilometers further south in the salt lake Salar de Coipasa .

From Oruro the dirt road Ruta 12 leads via Toledo and Ancaravi to Huachacalla . Here a dirt track branches off in an easterly direction, which Escara reaches after fourteen kilometers.

Since the population of the Municipio Escara increased from 863 inhabitants to 1407 inhabitants between 2001 and 2010, a significant increase in population can also be expected for the town of Escara itself in this decade.
Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of indigenous population, in the municipality of Escara 81.1 percent of the over 6-year-olds speak the Aymara language ( 2001 ).
