The ash rose ( Rosa blanda ), also called labrador rose , meadow rose or ash-leaved rose , is a species of plant from the genus roses ( Rosa ) within the rose family (Rosaceae).
description
Rosa blanda forms a shrub that can reach heights of up to 2 meters. The smooth, long branches have only a few spines at the base. The imparipinnate leaves are 2 to 5 centimeters long and consist of five to seven elongated oval leaflets . The flowering period begins early - from May. The flowers are individually or up to six in clusters. The slightly fragrant, hermaphrodite flowers are up to 5 centimeters in diameter and are radially symmetrical with a double flower envelope . The petals are bright pink. The relatively large rose hips are bright red when ripe.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 14.
Occurrence
The original range of Rosa blanda is in eastern and central North America . This wild rose is frost hardy down to −29 ° C ( USDA zone 5 ).

Rosa blanda was used by the Hungarian rose breeder Rudolf Geschwind at the end of the 19th century along with Rosa arkansana , Rosa acicularis and other wild roses to breed a group of robust and particularly hardy "Nordland roses". In the United States, Rosa blanda was used to grow a "thornless" rose.
