Essam Abd el-Fatah

Essam Abd el-Fatah ( Arabic عصام عبد الفتاح, DMG ʿAṣṣām ʿAbd al-Fatāḥ ; * December 30, 1965 in Cairo ) is a former Egyptian airplane pilot and FIFA referee .

Fatah has been a FIFA referee since 2001 and chaired his first international match in 2003 when Morocco met Sierra Leone . It was used at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , the Africa Cup of Nations and the Egypt Cup. In 2005 he whistled at the FIFA World Youth Championship in the Netherlands and in 2006 at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Fatah led the game between Australia and Japan and was heavily criticized for a blatantly wrong decision to the disadvantage of Australia. Since then he has not been used in World Cup games, but in games of the Africa Cup of Nations .
