Esto-Sadok ( Russian Эсто-Садок ; Estonian Eesti Aiake ; literally: Estonian garden ) is a Russian village, a district of Sochi (Stadtrajon Adler ) in the Krasnodar region . The mountain village with the extensive Gornaya Karussel ski area is located on the Msymta river at the foot of the Aibga mountain , 4 km north of the Krasnaya Polyana winter sports resort . It had 400 inhabitants until it was expanded into a hotel village (2002 census).

history

At the place where Esto-Sadok is today, Ubychen and Sadz -Abchaz lived until 1864 , who were expelled to the Ottoman Empire by the Russian army together with other ethnic groups . The ruins of a Circassian fortress have been preserved in the village .

In 1886, 36 Estonian families settled here to farm. On August 21, 1886, they came to the then Greek village of Krasnaya Polyana and from there moved on to Esto-Sadok.

The Estonian writer Anton Hansen Tammsaare lived in Esto-Sadok from 1912 to 1913 . Today a museum commemorates his stay.

There are tourist facilities in Esto-Sadok, mainly for winter sports enthusiasts.

The Estonian community is now very small and very Russified.
