Eucharius Gottlieb Rink

Eucharius Gottlieb Rink (born August 11, 1670 in Stötteritz , † February 9, 1745 in Altdorf near Nuremberg ) was a German heraldist and lawyer .

Life

Origin and studies

Its origin is the Rink von Dorstig family, who were ennobled in the 15th century. The tribe was based in Stötteritz near Leipzig as the hereditary lords of the upper part of the manor. The father of Eucharius Gottlieb was Johann Georg Rink, later "Commissioner" of the Electorate of Saxony and bailiff of Belzig .

Rink grew up first with his father, at that time government secretary Christian I of Saxony-Merseburg , then with his grandmother in Leipzig . As early as 1679 he was accepted into the register of the local university , but did not really study until 1687. In 1690 he moved to the University of Altdorf , where he made the acquaintance of the scholar Johann Christoph Wagenseil , and finally finished his studies at the University of Halle .

Professional activities

Through the mediation of the lawyer Samuel Stryk , who taught there , he was employed in the 1690s as court master by a count of Löwenstein-Wertheim , with whom he made some trips through Europe. In 1697, however, he went back to Altdorf, where he did his doctorate and gave lectures on public law , but also on the “fine way of life” . From 1700 to 1703 he stayed in Vienna, where he worked on the Reichshofrat , but at the same time wrote homage to the House of Habsburg and published a paper on coinage that was very well received by the learned public . Although he received offers to enter the state service of the Russian Empire or to become captain of a regiment of the Austrian infantry , he finally decided to continue his scholarly career afterwards. He returned to Leipzig and lived there until 1707 when he was appointed to the chair for public and canon law in Altdorf. In 1717 the professorship for feudal law was added.

Rink married in 1709 and was appointed Real Imperial Councilor in 1732 . In 1739 he was accepted as a foreign member of the Royal Prussian Society of Sciences .

research

The main focus of his research were the seals as sources of his heraldic work. He invented the heraldic hatching for iron and for natural color. In his opinion, all coats of arms originated in German areas.

His collections were published in 1747 by his son-in-law Adam Friedrich Glafey .
