Eugen Baumgartner

Eugen Baumgartner (born August 21, 1879 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † April 12, 1944 there ) was a German politician ( center ). He was President of the Baden State Parliament from 1923 to 1930 and Minister of Culture and Education from 1931 to 1933.

Life

From 1898 to 1903 Eugen Baumgartner studied history and law at the University of Freiburg . In 1901 he received his doctorate in Freiburg at the philosophical faculty for Dr. phil. , 1907 at the law and political science faculty for Dr. iur. From 1903 to 1908 Baumgartner was a trainee teacher in Lörrach and Freiburg, from 1908 to 1911 high school professor at the teachers' college in Ettlingen and from 1911 to 1919 he was a district school councilor in Schopfheim and Emmendingen. In 1919 he became Ministerialrat in the Baden Ministry of Culture and Education.

Baumgartner was a member of the Baden state parliament for the Center Party from 1920 and until the National Socialists ' seizure of power . From 1923 to 1930 Baumgartner was president of the Baden state parliament. Baumgartner came out with federalistically accentuated memoranda. From 1930 to 1931 he was President of the Baden Audit Office and first parliamentary group chairman and then party chairman of the Baden center.

The high point of his career was in 1931 when he was appointed Minister of Culture and Education in the state government of Baden in the Schmitt III cabinet . During this time, Baumgartner brought about a concordat between the Free State of Baden and the Holy See , the so-called Baden Concordat of October 12, 1932. On March 11, 1933, a commissariat government was set up by decree of the Reich President and Baumgartner was also replaced.

Eugen Baumgartner was a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Wildenstein Freiburg im Breisgau in the Cartell Association (CV) . He was instrumental in setting up the KDSt.V. Ripuaria Freiburg im Breisgau involved and was the first Urripuare as an old gentleman.
