Eugen Kopp (born July 3, 1903 in Karlsruhe , † August 11, 1993 ) was a German gymnastics trainer and sports teacher.

Life

Eugen Kopp, already a teacher at this time, took over the school team of the gymnastics club Haagen 1881 eV in February 1924 , where he was later an honorary member. In 1928 he was transferred to Weil am Rhein as a teacher , where he worked on TV Weil 1884. In 1929 he founded a women's department there as the club leader of the TuS Stetten. In 1931 he took over the initiative to acquire the property from the company Engisch & Co. from Basel for the construction of the club's own sports field between Basler Strasse and the industrial canal. In 1932 he was one of the initiators, sponsors and co-executors of the construction of the ski and hiking hut of the TuS Stetten in Todtnauberg . Together with the architect Ernst Herbster and some of his students, they drove Franz Trikes' truck to the top of the hill and started the excavation work there.

As Wiesental district gymnastics supervisor, he was given the task of informing the clubs that the first club leaders had to be members of the NSDAP . In 1935 he was brought to Villingen by District School Councilor Heinrich Koch , where he taught as a physical education teacher first at the elementary school, then at the former Immelmann School and later at the Oberschule for boys (now grammar school at Romäusring Villingen-Schwenningen ). Also in 1935 he took over the post of senior gymnast at the gymnastics club in Villingen .

In 1936 Kopp was one of the Olympic trainers of the German team and Villingen became one of the Olympic bases for the aspirants in apparatus gymnastics . Under Kopp, the clubs of the TV Villingen also took part in the German gymnastics festivals. The association's 150th anniversary publication shows that artistic gymnastics in Villingen found its heyday in the Kopp era.

After the Second World War , he worked in various functions for the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB). Among other things, he prepared together with the German-Russian trainer Alexander "Alex" Tananaki (1914-2006) from the gymnastics club Zell 1864 eV ( Zell im Wiesental ) from Odessa , the German gymnasts for the world championships. In 1948, Kopp also directed the centenary of TV Villingen in the "Waldschlössle". In 1954 he received the DTB's letter of honor.

He also served as a teacher in the 1950s, teachers of the Institute of Physical Education and taught in the University Stadium ( Schwarzwaldstraße 225 ) of the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg . Kopp was also the initiator of the Friends of the 34th World Championship and 36th Olympic Team .

In 1968 he resigned from the DTB gymnastics committee. Eugen Kopp died in 1993 shortly after his 90th birthday.
