Eugenio Zanetti

Eugenio Zanetti (* 1949 in Córdoba , Argentina ) is an Argentinian director , author , art director and production designer who has won an Oscar for best production design , the Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild and the renowned Argentinian Thalia Prize.

Life

Art director and production designer

Zanetti began working as an art director and production designer in the film industry in 1974 for the film La Tregua and has been involved in the production of almost twenty films to this day.

At the 1996 Academy Awards , he won the Academy Award for Best Production Design in the drama Restoration (1995) directed by Michael Hoffman with Robert Downey Jr. , Sam Neill and David Thewlis in the lead roles .

In 1999 , he and Cindy Carr received an Oscar nomination in this category for Behind the Horizon (1998) by Vincent Ward starring Robin Williams , Cuba Gooding Jr. and Max von Sydow . In 1999 he won the Art Directors Guild's Excellence in Production Design Award with Jim Dultz, Tomas Voth and Christian Wintter for the staging of this film .

In 2007 he was on the jury of the San Luis Cine International Festival in San Luis .

Theater, opera and musical director

Zanetti is also an internationally recognized director who has staged more than forty stage works and operas such as Un ballo in maschera and Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi , Madama Butterfly and Tosca by Giacomo Puccini and others in Europe and South America .

He also gained wide recognition as a director of musicals . For his productions of They Are Playing Our Song , Chicago and Dracula , he received the renowned Thalia Prize, the Argentine equivalent of the US Tony Award . He also won the Thalia Prize as an author for The White Queen and the Estrella de Mar by Mar del Plata for the productions of The Cherry Orchard by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov , Chapter Two by Neil Simon , Company by Stephen Sondheim and Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen .
