Eugeniusz Pankiewicz (born December 15, 1857 in Siedlce , † December 24, 1898 in Tworki ) was a Polish composer and pianist.

Live and act

Eugeniusz Pankiewicz was the brother of the painter Józef Pankiewicz . He attended high school in Lublin and took piano lessons there. In 1875 he came to Warsaw with his family and was a student of Józef Wieniawski . After graduating, he continued his piano studies at the St. Petersburg Conservatory with Teodor Leszetycki in 1877 or 1878 . After a stay in Moscow around 1880, he returned to Warsaw, where he studied composition with Władysław Żeleński and Zygmunt Noskowski .

From 1883 he led a piano class at the Music Institute and another at a school for girls of noble origin. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed in Warsaw, Łódź (with Stanisław Barcewicz ), Lublin (with Władysław Alois ) and Piotrków (with Zygmunt Noskowski and Mieczysław Horbowski ). In 1894 he fell seriously ill and suffered a nervous breakdown.

In addition to piano pieces, he composed works for choir (and soloists) with piano accompaniment and a cappella, songs with piano accompaniment and a theme with variations for string quartet. In his vocal works he set poems by Adam Asnyk , Michał Bałucki , Heinrich Heine , Franciszek Karpiński , Jan Kochanowski , Józef Kościelski , Teofil Lenartowicz and Nikolaus Lenau to music .
