The European Seaway is a cargo and passenger ferry operated by the British P&O Ferries , which entered service in 1991. The ship is used on the route from Dover to Calais .
history
The European Seaway was laid down on October 15, 1990 under construction number 1075 near Schichau Seebeck in Bremerhaven and launched on April 20, 1991. After the takeover by P&O on October 2, 1991, the ship was put into service on October 7 on the route from Dover to Zeebrugge .
From March 1998 to October 2002 the European Seaway was jointly managed by P&O and Stena Line . In December 2002 the ship switched to the Dover to Calais route.
In January 2004, was European Seaway in Falmouth launched . From June 2004, the ship was unused in Birkenhead , before it was back on the route from Dover to Calais in January 2005. From October to November 2011 the European Seaway was launched again, this time in Tilbury .
From March to October 2012 the ship was chartered to Centrica Renewable Energy as floating accommodation for workers at a wind turbine in Skegness . On December 22, 2012, it resumed service from Dover to Calais. From August 2014 to March 2015 the European Seaway was chartered again for the same purpose and this time used off Heligoland . Since July 20, 2015 she has been back in service from Dover to Calais.
The European Seaway is the only one of a total of four sister ships that has not been converted into a car ferry. The other three ships are the Pride of Canterbury , Pride of Kent, and Pride of Burgundy .
