Eva Lenneis

Eva Lenneis is an Austrian prehistoric expert and has been an external lecturer in prehistory at the University of Vienna since 2001 . Her research focus is on the Neolithic in Central and Southeastern Europe.

Life

Studies and archaeological field research

Lenneis studied prehistory as a major and art history as a minor at the University of Vienna from 1969 to 1975 . In the course of her studies she took part in archaeological excavations for the first time, including in 1972 in Hienheim in Bavaria and 1973 in Bylany in Bohemia . In 1974 she took part in a rescue excavation of the linear ceramic settlement in the corridor "In den Leinerinnen" in Mödling . From November 1975 to April 1976 she worked in the Department of Ground Monuments of the Federal Monuments Office. Then she was from May 1, 1976 to October 31, 1977 research assistant to the prehistoric Richard Pittioni .

From November 1977 Lenneis worked as a freelance archaeologist. As such, she was particularly active in Lower Austria . With the support of the cultural department of the Lower Austrian state government , she carried out investigations of the stiched ceramic ditch in Frauenhofen from 1975 to 1979 . In 1979 a test excavation followed in the Milchtaschen vineyard there. Objects of the note head ceramics were found here. From 1980 to 1981 she carried out a rescue excavation of a Lengyel culture settlement in Pottenbrunn for the Lower Austrian State Museum . In 1984 and 1985, together with Jens Lüning, she carried out excavations on the old-band ceramic settlement in Neckenmarkt in Burgenland . In 1986, together with Lüning, an excavation of the old strip ceramic settlement of Strögen followed . From 1988 to 1994, Lenneis carried out investigations into the linear ceramic settlement of Rosenburg im Kamptal on behalf of the cultural department of the Lower Austrian state government . Then from 1995 to 2007 she carried out an investigation of the linear ceramic band settlement of Mold on behalf of the Department of Culture and Science of the Lower Austrian State Government .

Academic teaching and research projects

In addition to her archaeological excavation work, Lenneis was a lecturer at the Institute for Prehistory and Early History (today: Institute for Prehistory and Historical Archeology) at the University of Vienna from 1996 to 2000 . In June 2001 she received the license to teach prehistory at the University of Vienna and has been an external lecturer at the institute since 2002.

Furthermore, she participated in various projects in the course of her archaeological career. From 1981 to 2000 she took part in the international research project “Excavations at the beginning of the Neolithic in Central Europe”, led by Jens Lüning , and among other things dug in the oldest ceramic settlement of Neckenmarkt . From 1993 to 1995 she was in charge of the research project "Scientific investigations on the early Neolithic" of the Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research . From 1998 to 1999 she was in charge of the research project “Research on the development and settlement structure of the culture of the older linear ceramics (around 5600 - 5200 BC) in Austria” of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank's Jubilee Fund . In 2001 she headed the research project “Absolute Dating of Settlement Development in Early Neolithic Austria” of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank's anniversary fund . From 2006 to 2008 she headed the research project “Early farming life 7000 years ago: a reconstruction” of the Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research . From 2008 to 2010 she took part in the international research project “The First Farmers of Central Europe: Diversity in LBK Lifeways” under the direction of Alasdair Whittle .

On December 9, 2014, Lenneis was appointed a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute .
