Life

Rossmann studied in Graz-to-last semester Jus . During a stay in Vienna during the semester break, she decided - "to the horror of my parents" - to break off her studies here and move to Vienna.

Lawyer and journalist

Rossmann began her career as a constitutional lawyer in the Federal Chancellery. According to her own statements, however, the bureaucratic and hierarchical processes were alien to her, whereupon she turned to political journalism and initially worked as a freelance journalist for ORF radio and the Neue Zürcher Zeitung . From 1989 to 1994 she headed the Viennese editorial department of the Upper Austrian News , since then Eva Rossmann has been working as a freelance writer. Since 1994 she has been writing regularly in the magazine A la Carte on the subjects of cooking and gastronomy.

Feminism and Politics

In 1997 the feminist Rossmann was one of the initiators of the Austrian women's referendum. In 1998 she supported and coordinated the candidacy of the independent candidate Gertraud Knoll in the federal presidential election campaign , where she gained her first political experience. She describes herself as a very political person and does not belong to any political party, but she mostly sympathizes with the Greens and “thinks that politics shouldn't just be left to professional politicians”.

As an author, Rossmann wrote nonfiction books on women's issues and feminism from 1995.

Crime writer

Around 1998 she decided to write detective novels "after the many non-fiction books":

“I just wanted to allow myself to write a thriller in order to tell something in a different form that I like very much. It quickly became clear that I didn't want a professional detective as the main character. Since I was a journalist myself, and journalists could soon find their way into something, that too was quickly decided. "

1999 appeared with the election campaign her first crime novel about the lifestyle journalist and amateur detective Mira Valensky and her cleaning lady Vesna Krajner.

An essential element of her detective novels are extensive research by Rossmann in the locations of the action, mostly in Vienna and the surrounding area. For her novel Auskocht she worked at the restaurant "Zur Alten Schule" run by award- winning chef Manfred Buchinger . She enjoyed cooking so much that she completed her apprenticeship there and in 2004 completed her apprenticeship as a state-certified chef. For the Caribbean - all inclusive "[Rossmann] just 'had' to go to the Caribbean on vacation several times .... (well, and ask a little more specifically there)".

She wrote two scripts for the TV series SOKO Kitzbühel .

Private

In 1990 Eva Rossmann moved to the Weinviertel in Lower Austria. She is married to the ORF radio editor ( Ö1 ) Ernest Hauer, they live and work in Auersthal .
