Evan S. Connell

Evan Shelby Connell, Jr. (born August 17, 1924 in Kansas City , Missouri , † January 10, 2013 in Santa Fe , New Mexico ) was an American writer .

Life

Evan Shelby Connell Junior was the son of physician Evan S. Connell, Sr. (1890–1974), and Ruth Elton Connells. He graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City in 1941 and then studied at Dartmouth College, and in 1947 did his bachelor's degree in English at the University of Kansas . He also studied creative writing at Columbia University and Stanford University .

With The Anatomy Lesson Connell published his first collection of short stories in 1957. The following year, Mrs. Bridge, his first novel, was translated into German as Lovable Mrs. Bridge in 1960 . Together with the 1969 published Mr. Bridge , both novels were filmed for the 1990 film drama Mr. & Mrs. Bridge . In addition, his 1985 history book Son of the Morning Star: Custer and the Little Bighorn was adapted to the 1991 television film General Custer's Last Battle .

In 1988 he was accepted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters .
