The Evangelical Church in Heddesheim in the Rhein-Neckar district in the north-west of Baden-Württemberg was built between 1870 and 1872 according to plans by Hermann Behaghel .

history

Elector Ottheinrich introduced the Reformation in the Electoral Palatinate in 1556 . Heddesheim then took part in all changes of denomination in the Palatinate, mostly between Lutherans and Reformed . The St. Remigius Church in the village was, however, assigned to the Catholics after the Palatinate church division in 1707, although the Reformed made up the majority of the population. They were now looked after by the pastor from Schriesheim, later from Ladenburg . In 1755 the Reformed church built a church in Heddesheim, but it was not until 1807 that a parish was established again in the village.

In 1832 Georg Friedrich Schlatter (1799–1875) became pastor in Heddesheim, who was later to be sentenced to ten years in prison as a participant in the Baden Revolution of 1848/49. One of his successors was Philipp Allmang (1799–1867). He became pastor in Heddesheim in 1851 and was twice a member of the Baden Estates Assembly . Due to the population growth, the old church had become too small. That is why it was demolished in 1870 and replaced by a new building by 1872. 1985 began a multi-stage renovation, which was completed with the interior in 1999/2000.

description

inner space

The church is an early work of the board of the Protestant church building inspection Heidelberg Hermann Behaghel . It combines the arched style with neo-Gothic elements. A wooden gallery surrounds the interior. The font and altar were designed in 1963. The matching style pulpit was erected during the renovation of the interior in 1999/2000. The central window in the round choir was donated in 1908. Its theme is the blessing of the disciples before Ascension Day .

The organ with its romantic character goes back to the first instrument, which was built by Mathias Burkhard in 1871 and from which the prospectus and parts of the pipework have been preserved. In 1928 the organ was expanded by Steinmeyer , added in 1971 by Gotthard Arnold and restored by Walcker in 1992 . The instrument has 23 registers on two manuals and a pedal .

The ringing consists of three bells . From the church's first bell from 1872, only one bell has survived, because the two larger ones had to be delivered in each of the two world wars. They were replaced with two bells by Friedrich Wilhelm Schilling in 1949 .
