Interior of the church

The Evangelical Church of Thundorf , a community in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen , is a village church . The church is one of the Thundorf architectural monuments and is registered in the Bavarian Monument List under number D-6-72-157-10 . The parish of Thundorf has belonged together with those of Poppenlauer , Maßbach , Rothhausen and Volkershausen to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Lauertal in the dean's office in Schweinfurt since 2013 .

history

The community, one of the smallest in the district, can look back on a long history. Lutheran preaching has been taking place in Thundorf since 1520 at the latest. This happened unimpaired until in 1676 rule over Thundorf changed from the Evangelical von Schaumberg family to the Catholic von Rosenbach family . As a result of the repression that followed, the congregation became noticeably smaller and even today only has about 60 members in times of good ecumenical cooperation.

The church tower was built in the 15th century. It had a bell roof until 1870 .

The nave was built south of the tower . There are different views about the year the nave was built. On the one hand the year 1699 and on the other hand the year 1727 are mentioned. In 1848 the church was rebuilt inside.

From 1680 to 1847 the Protestant parsonage was housed in the neighboring former knight school.

In 1975 the interior of the church was restored. In 2001 the pulpit and ambo were restored. In the course of a further renovation in 2005 and 2006, the pulpit was given a new color and the walls inside were redesigned. The church was also painted white on the outside.

description

The two-story church tower now has a pointed roof. It is the only bell tower in the village; the nearby Catholic church has bells but no tower. It has three sound windows and a round arch portal . The acoustic windows, of which the southern one is somewhat smaller and divided into two, are segmental arches . In the church tower there is a smaller choir , which is separated by a wall. The flat-roofed southern nave has three windows on the western wall, also segmental arches. The entrance is also there. The east wall is windowless.

Furnishing

The interior of the church is neo-Romanesque and dates from the 19th century. On the altar in front of the wall drawn in for this purpose, a gift from the Bad Kissingen parish in 1848, you can see the painting “Easter Morning”.

The church also contains a hexagonal wooden pulpit , probably built at the beginning of the 19th century, with baroque figures of the four evangelists . Today it is painted in a light brown color. In 1872 the baptismal font was made of sandstone and the current stalls were installed. The baptismal font from 1872 replaced an older baptismal font, which dates from the time of the Lords of Schaumburg and which, according to parishioners, should have disappeared without a trace.

The organ with neo-Romanesque decorations is a work by Steinmeyer Öttingen from 1883.

The walls are provided with an all-round decorative border, which should direct the view forward.
