Rosenbach (noble family)
The von Rosenbach family was a Franconian, lower-aristocratic family . The ancestral seat was Rosenbach Castle , located in the hamlet of Rosenbach near Hainstadt , which was part of the then County of Wertheim in the Breuberg domain. The sex was wealthy in the county of Erbach .
history
The von Rosenbach family had their origins within the Breuberg rule . The von Rosenbach family moved to Franconia relatively late. The family had at least four lines, which were only distinguished by the lower part of the coat of arms:
- the Bach von Nalsbach (also Clebi (t) ze von Nalsbach ) - a current desert north-west of the Umstadt district of Wiebelsbach ,
- the brook of Neustadt ,
- the stream of Raypach
- the Bach von Rosenbach , as well
- the brook of Waschenbach .
In the Hochstift Würzburg there are numerous namesake in the cathedral chapter and in administrative positions. From the beginning of the 17th century, for example, the Grand Prior Wiprecht von Rosenbach also included members of von Rosenbach in the Order of St. John . With Johann Hartmann von Rosenbach they provided a prince-bishop of Würzburg .
As part of the Frankish imperial free knighthood, the family was organized in the canton of Odenwald and Baunach . The family died out in 1806. According to Wagner, when his book was published in 1862, the Rosenbach was the only branch that had not yet died out.
A branch of the family also settled on the Upper Rhine in the 16th and 17th centuries.

coat of arms
The coat of arms is divided in silver and black, with a black lion growing above, tongued red, usually crowned with gold; partly with a double, partly with a single tail. The crest of those von Rosenbach is a growing, crowned lion between two buffalo horns divided by silver and black. The helmet covers are black and silver. In Johann Siebmacher's coat of arms book there is a Rosenbach coat of arms under the Hessian knighthood, which differs in color and motif, but also shows similarities.
