Hainstadt is a district of Breuberg in the Odenwaldkreis in Hesse .

Geographical location

Hainstadt is located in the red sandstone area of the northeastern Odenwald as the lowest-lying village in the Odenwaldkreis on the Mümling just before it crosses the state border into Bavaria into the Mömlingen district . In the southern tip of the Hainstadt district on the Mümling is the hamlet of Rosenbach , which is located around a mill and an estate (this was built in 1624) and probably gave its name to the noble von Rosenbach family (died out in 1803), who were wealthy in the Breuberg domain . In the north, just before the state border, is the Spatmühle with the Mümling power station.

The closest localities are Wald-Amorbach in the north-west, Mömlingen in the north-east, Obernburg am Main in the east and Rai-Breitenbach and Neustadt in the south .

history

The existence of the place has been documented under the name Heimstat since around the year 800. The place name changed several times, as follows:

  • Homeland (around 800)
  • Heimstadt (1380–1388)
  • Heynstat (2nd half of the 14th century)
  • Heynstadt (1445)
  • Haynstadt (1757)

In 1557 the place belonged to the lordship of Breuberg and in 1806 it became part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . In 1939 the place had 601 inhabitants and belonged to the Erbach district .

On the occasion of the regional reform in Hesse on October 1, 1971, Hainstadt merged with other communities to form the new city of Breuberg. For Hainstadt, as for all previously independent towns, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was formed.

Transport and infrastructure

The federal highway 426 runs through the lower Mümlingtal and thus through Hainstadt and connects Höchst in the Odenwald with Obernburg. In the through town, the state road 3413 branches off to the north, which leads via Wald-Amorbach and Dorndiel to Groß-Umstadt .

The district was connected to the SPNV by the Aschaffenburg – Höchst (Odenwald) railway with the Hainstadt (Kr Erbach) stop .

Since closure of the route of the closest is the station maximum (Odenw) at the Odenwaldbahn .

In Hainstadt, the Darmstadt-Starkenburg section of the German Alpine Club in Darmstadt has built a via ferrata with an altitude of 40 to 45 meters. It is located in an abandoned sandstone quarry just north of the village on the L 3413. Above the exit there is a small refuge with a view of the Mümlingtal.
