The Evangelical Church Dörnhagen is a listed church building in Dörnhagen , a district of Fuldabrück in the district of Kassel ( Hesse ). The church was first mentioned in 1425; the first pastor is recorded for 1450.

architecture

The facility is located in a fortified cemetery whose late Gothic ring wall still has loopholes today. Remnants of the battlements have also been preserved. The Romanesque , originally flat-roofed nave was built in the 12th century. In the west there is a partially walled-in double arcade to a planned but not completed west tower. In the middle of the 13th century, two groined groin vaults were drawn into the nave . The original arched windowswere cut over and walled up. The strong, pointed belt and shield arches rest on strong wall templates. The narrower medieval choir was replaced in 1734 by a rectangular choir the width of the nave. The tower hood of the current square west tower was put on in 1798. The west portal dates from 1800. The windows in the nave were enlarged in 1832. The richly decorated ceiling with figures of angels is remarkable; the old ceiling paintings were uncovered and restored during a renovation between 1965 and 1966.
