Architecture and history

The green sandstone building is a three-bay hall with a transept and a wide 5/8 choir . The oldest part is the transept; it dates from the second half of the 12th century. Originally an apse connected to it, which was proven during excavations in 1975 and 1976. In the north transept there is a walled up round arch opening from the 12th century. Remnants of the room setting from the second half of the 12th century were uncovered in 1976. The former nave was replaced by the current one around 1300. The late Gothic sacrament niche from the first half of the 15th century was added in 1976. The current choir dates from 1543 on the outer wall. The flat-arched windows were installed in the nave in 1692. At the end of the 17th century, the vaults were provided with oak planks, similar to a Gothic cross-ribbed vault. The vaults in the ship rest on strong templates. In the transept, the stone belt and shield arches are rounded, in the nave they are pointed. The outer walls of the choir are plastered.

Steeple

The three-story Romanesque west tower from the twelfth century was crowned with a helmet in 1726 . On the ground floor it has a wall thickness of about two meters and is 29.65 m high. The clock bell was cast by Christian Voigt in 1750; the tower clock was installed in the 19th century.
