Evelyn Huber (* 1970 ) is a German harpist .

life and work

Evelyn Huber studied harp with Helga Storck at the University of Music and Theater in Munich and graduated in 2000 with a master class diploma. From 1998 to 2009 she worked there as a lecturer for harp. In 2007 she was appointed visiting professor at the Guildhall School of Music London.

Very early on, she began to explore the musical possibilities of the great concert harp and to transcend conventional boundaries. Jazz workshops in the USA, concert activities all over the world with different ensembles and, last but not least, her solo performances made her a virtuoso in the genres of jazz and world music.

The world-famous klezmer clarinetist Giora Feidman brought her on stage, she toured Europe, Africa and Latin America with the dulcimer virtuoso Rudi Zapf , and in 1997 she founded an extraordinary duo with the jazz saxophonist Mulo Francel : harp and saxophone, jazzy rhythms, oriental arabesques, tango and bossa nova and always the desire to improvise.

This extraordinary art of harp, with which she became known around the world, can also be heard in the band Quadro Nuevo , to which she has been a member since 2008. The ensemble was awarded the German music industry award ECHO Jazz in the category “Live Act of the Year” in 2010 and 2011 .

Huber also received other prestigious awards, including the Bavarian Culture Prize and the German Jazz Award in gold from the German music industry twice .

In 2002, Bayerischer Rundfunk broadcast a portrait film by Uli Kick about her entitled “The Metamorphoses of Evelyn Huber” as part of the Lebenslinien series .

Huber mostly plays on a double pedal harp made by the French harp manufacturer Camac . Evelyn Huber lives east of Munich .
