Ewald Walser (born April 23, 1947 in Wels ) is an Austrian painter , graphic artist and university professor . From 1979 he taught at the Art University Linz and was president of the artists' association MAERZ from 1982 to 2003 .

Live and act

Walser attended the art school of the city of Linz from 1964 to 1969 in the master class for free graphics with Alfons Ortner . At the same time he worked from 1965 to 1968 at the Neue Galerie der Stadt Linz under Walter Kasten . In 1979 he began to teach continuously at the Art University Linz in the field of textiles / art & design until he was finally awarded the professional title of university professor in 2002. In 1996/97 he accepted teaching positions for painting at the Bauhaus University Weimar .

The artist has been a member of the MAERZ artists 'association since 1974, took over the management of the MAERZ gallery in 1976 and was president of the artists' association from 1982 to 2003. From 1976 to 1994 he was also a member of the Künstlerhaus Wien .

He is responsible for national and international cooperation in exhibition projects such as MAERZ in SECESSION Vienna (1987), BORDERCROSSINGS (1991 and 1995), Austrian-Russian-Lithuanian cultural project (1992), GO EAST GO WEST (1995), and others. a. In 1999 he conceived and organized an art-communication tour (Austria - Moscow) together with Katja Vassilieva ACT 99.

In a fire that broke out on March 31, 2017 in the joint studio of Ewald Walser and Katja Vassilieva in Linz, a large part of the works of the two artists stored there were destroyed.
