Hermann Friedl

Hermann Friedl (born February 21, 1920 in Linz , † December 4, 1988 in Steyr ) was an Austrian physician and writer .

Life

Hermann Friedl grew up in the Mühlviertel . After attending the Stiftsgymnasium Wilhering and graduating from high school in 1938, he began studying medicine. Despite his participation in the Second World War as a soldier in the Wehrmacht in Poland , France and the Soviet Union , he was able to continue his studies at the University of Vienna , which he obtained in autumn 1945 with the degree of Dr. med. univ. finished. He then worked as a doctor in Linz and from 1951 to 1962 as a community doctor in Oberneukirchen / Mühlviertel. In 1967 he went to Erlangen as a specialist in psychiatry and neurology , later he was a lecturer at the University of Ulm . From 1980 Friedl headed the neurological department of the General Accident Insurance Institute in Vienna . Shortly after his return to Linz, he died of a heart attack . In addition to his medical work, Friedl was also active in literature since the 1950s. In 1977 he was one of the participants in the first Ingeborg Bachmann competition in Klagenfurt .

Hermann Friedl was the author of narrative works , essays , poems and radio plays .

Hermann Friedl was a member of the Liechtenstein PEN Club and the Graz Authors' Assembly . He received u. a. 1962 the Adalbert Stifter Prize , 1981 the Adalbert Stifter Prize , 1986 the City of Linz Culture Prize.
