Sir Leslie Lynn Marr (* 14. August 1922 in Durham ) is a British painter and former Formula 1 - racing driver .

Life

Leslie Lynn is the only son of Colonel John Lynn Marr (1877-1931) and his wife Amelia Rachel Thompson (1884-1971). Due to the early death of his father, Leslie, aged just 9, became heir to his grandfather's title, Sir James Marr, and owner of the shipyard. After attending school in Shrewsbury , he went to Cambridge and studied at Pembroke College . Marr then completed his military service in the Royal Air Force , where he was promoted to flight lieutenant . During the Second World War he was stationed in Palestine . After the war, Marr studied at London South Bank University under David Bomberg . After graduating, he worked as a secretary at the university and took part in several exhibitions. Between 1954 and 1955 Marr drove unsuccessfully in Formula 1. In 1955 he won the third edition of the Cornwall MRC Formula One Race , a Formula 1 race without world championship status in which only five drivers took part.

Leslie Marr is married to Maureen Thelma Dormer (* 1938) for the third time; the previous connections resulted in three daughters, Naomi Juliet (* 1947), Joanne Lesley (* 1963) and Rebecca Lynn (* 1966). Today he lives with his wife on the Isle of Arran .
