The Excalibur 35 X , also written Excalibur 35X , also called Excalibur 57 , was a car model of the US American brand Excalibur . However, the production took place in Italy .

Manufacturer

In Monaco -based European Excalibur importer Guy S. Storr was the driving force in the project. A source names the manufacturer Excalibur Motor SpA in Turin . Storr was involved in the company and was a sales agent. There was a collaboration with Giovanni Michelotti for development and production . There was also a connection to the Italian engine tuner Conrero .

vehicle description

The model was a replica of a Bugatti Type 35 built in 1924–1930. Guy S. Storr commissioned Michelotti to develop the chassis and body. One source states that Michelotti was also the designer . Another source says it's unclear who the design came from, but Brooks Stevens of Excalibur Automobile Corporation is believed to have drawn the first designs. The spring 1969 catalog of the Automobile Revue also states that the body was designed by Brooks Stevens. The German car catalog of those years puts it this way: A creation by Guy S. Storr, style idea by Brooks Stevens, body by Michelotti, assembly and completion by Conrero.

A six-cylinder engine from the Opel Commodore with 2490 cm³ displacement and OHC valve control propelled the vehicles. The engines made between 130 hp and 180 hp. Conrero tuned some engines. The vehicles had a wheelbase of 266 cm and were 410 cm long and 160 cm wide. The curb weight was given as 950 kg. The open body of the roadster managed without doors and offered space for two people. The price was given as around 33,000 DM , which was roughly the price for a Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 Cabriolet .

It was noticeable that the typical Bugatti radiator grille in the shape of a horseshoe was not straight at the bottom. The spare wheel was attached to the right of the vehicle.

Production time

One source gives individual production figures for the years 1966 to 1969. However, there are also different figures. The author Roger Gloor states in one of his books that the first vehicle was shown for the first time in 1967; however, he says in another book that the production took place in the mid-1970s. According to another source, the model in the spring of 1968 was New York presented at a motor show, then in autumn 1968 on the de Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris and in the spring of 1969 at the Geneva Motor Show in Geneva . Another source states 1969 as the start of production. The model is mentioned in the catalog of the Automobil Revue from spring 1969 as well as in the German car catalogs of the model years 1969 and 1970, which appeared in autumn 1968 and autumn 1969 respectively.

Production numbers

A total of 27 vehicles were built.

One source gives the production figures separately by year.
