Explosiv - Das Magazin is an RTL television magazine that has been broadcast since May 11, 1992. Between 1987 and 1992 there was a previous program which was broadcast under the name Explosiv .
Charisma
The magazine is broadcast live from Cologne .
- Beginning of the format
When the format began on September 25, 1987, it was only broadcast every 14 days, alternating with Explosiv - The Hot Chair on Tuesday evenings at 10:00 p.m. At that time the show was moderated by Ulrich Meyer , Olaf Kracht and Hilmer Rolff .
- Change of program slot for broadcast Monday to Friday
Since May 11, 1992, the program has been broadcast five times a week, Monday to Friday at 7:10 p.m., and has since been moderated by Barbara Eligmann or Frauke Ludowig on his behalf . The content orientation was largely retained, but then changed steadily over the years (see section on thematic content ).
- Change of program location at the earlier broadcast time
As part of a restructuring of the early evening program, the program has been broadcast Monday through Friday at 6:00 p.m. since September 4, 2006, but the weekend version continues to be broadcast at 7:05 p.m. Thus, during the week, the magazine can only be seen via cable and antenna in federal states in which RTL does not broadcast any regional programs. This and the fact that fewer people are sitting in front of the TVs at the new airtime contributed to the fact that the audience figures fell sharply.
- Additional weekend edition Explosiv-Weekend
From 1995 a Saturday edition was also broadcast under the title Explosiv-Weekend . The program was thus broadcast six times a week. The thematic content of the Saturday edition coincided with the weekday editions. On Saturday the actual vacation replacement mostly moderated. Since July 2018 there is no longer a Saturday edition. After the magazine paused briefly, there has been a Sunday edition since August 2018, which is broadcast at 4:45 p.m. one hour before Exclusiv Weekend.
Thematic content
The content of the show has changed significantly over time. While curiosities from all over the world were shown at the beginning of the broadcast format, today “Explosiv - Das Magazin” mainly deals with individual fates and stories from life, which are discussed in short articles. Spectacular images and stories are the focus of the reporting. The program is an important source of ratings for RTL, which also explains the long running time.
Moderation
In the early days of the format, it was moderated for years by Ulrich Meyer , Olaf Kracht and Hilmer Rolff . When it ran Monday to Friday at prime time from 1992 onwards, the presenter Barbara Eligmann became the show's figurehead, in particular with her often parodied greeting “Welcome to Explosiv, my name is Barbara Eligmann!” . Frauke Ludowig became the substitute moderator . In 1994 Frauke Ludowig got her own explosive offshoot (see section offshoots ), whereupon Markus Lanz and Boris Henn became new substitute moderators. Shortly after her maternity leave in 1999, Barbara Eligmann left Explosiv. Eligmann moderated her last Explosiv edition on December 16, 2000. After she left, Markus Lanz took over the entire moderation. On March 31, 2008 Janine Steeger succeeded Markus Lanz, who moved to ZDF . Frank Biernat took over the editorial management.
Then “Explosiv - Das Magazin” was moderated alternately by Janine Steeger and Nazan Eckes . Nazan Eckes initially represented Petra Neftel during her maternity leave and remained in the moderation team when it stopped at the end of 2006. Elena Bruhn moderated for the first time on September 9, 2013 . From autumn 2015, Miriam Lange also acted as pregnancy substitute for Elena Bruhn, who temporarily suspended her moderation on October 23, 2015.
At the beginning of 2015, Janine Steeger announced that she had terminated her employment contract with RTL and would give up Explosiv . Her last day at work was on March 7, 2015. On October 18, 2019, Maurice Gajda presented for the first time as a pregnancy substitute for Sandra Kuhn and Elena Bruhn. After 4 years, Miriam Lange presented the magazine for the last time on December 16, 2019. She switched to WDR . As her successor, Leonie Koch has been moderating the show for one week a month since January 27, 2020.

Offshoot
A few offshoots were created under the name Explosiv , which pursue a different content orientation with a different subtitle. These include Explosiv - Telegram and Explosiv - The hot chair and, since June 1994, Explosiv - The hot iron . The formats have since been renamed or “replaced” by other “new” formats with similar sounding names. So instead of Explosiv - The hot iron now Extra - The RTL magazine and instead of Explosiv - Telegram now Exclusiv - Das Starmagazin .
criticism
The program broadcast on August 19, 2011 reported on the world's largest trade fair for computer games, Gamescom . Subsequently, the report was criticized for having portrayed the visitors as "badly dressed, without women, smelly and armed". Numerous people filed complaints. The Lower Saxony State Media Authority (NLM) announced after an examination that there had been no violation of media law provisions. RTL issued an official apology for the contribution in which the television station distanced itself from the statements of the RTL editor.
