For my children I do everything is a German television film . It was first broadcast on February 17, 2009 on Sat.1 . Lisa Martinek plays the main role .

action

After her husband's fatal accident, the previously well-off Marie Rensberg and her three children suddenly face a huge mountain of debt. Life insurance refuses to pay because it wants to record the insured event as a suicide due to the course of the accident. Marie's husband Charles had also got involved in speculative deals, so that the company is now facing bankruptcy. Marie's father-in-law Horst takes advantage of the imminent financial ruin to secure custody of his two granddaughters and to force the hated daughter-in-law and her son from a previous relationship out of the family. He only wants to help Marie financially if she lets him have custody of the daughters. After the funeral, the family has to move from their house to a small social apartment in a prefabricated housing estate. Marie learns that her neighbors Rana, Sonja and Valeska work as prostitutes or as strippers. When she realizes that her job in a supermarket is not enough to save her from impoverishment, Marie sees her only chance in working as a noble whore with Sonja's help. With this job, she finally has enough money to feed her children and keep the family together even without the support of her father-in-law. He does everything to let his daughter-in-law cause financial problems and hires a private detective when he realizes that Marie will manage to meet all financial obligations.

In the meantime, Marie arouses the interest of Valeska's pimp Ernie through her new nightly activities together with Sonja in a suitable outfit, who has been trying for a long time to let Rana and Sonja go for himself. Only his respect for Mammut, who also lives in this house and takes care of the women, prevents him from forcing them with physical violence. Only when he takes Mammut to the hospital with a preparation in a drink for several days can he implement his plan. The first time she works on his behalf, he observes her and notices the private detective who has set himself on Marie's trail and secretly takes photos of her while she is approached by interested parties. He beats him up and thus leads him to reveal the client.

Meanwhile, Marie's son gets more and more personal contact with his single and attractive sports teacher Tom, and she also gets to know him. She asks him to find out who's behind the company that got her husband, and now her, so distressed. The next time he visits her at home, Ernie brutally beat up Valeska, knocks Sonja to the ground and threatens Marie. When Tom intervenes, Ernie knocks him out and finally wants to stab the defenseless man lying on the floor. Valeska then shoots him.

Tom shows Marie printouts with evidence that there is a single man behind the company he is looking for, without realizing that this is her father-in-law. When she visits the one with these printouts, he tells her, in the presence of his wife, that he had learned years ago from his doctor that he was never fertile. His son must actually come from a lover of his wife, which is why he has rejected him for a long time and only accepted his daughters as his granddaughters. His anger at the fact that his wife had deceived him and that he had considered her child to be his son was so great that he had purposely driven him to bankruptcy.

background

Lisa Martinek, who received consistently positive reviews for her portrayal in this film, did her own research in the milieu beforehand and spoke to prostitutes about her work. Overall, however, the film was also referred to as a “thick TV drama”, with a “striking story and quick dramaturgy”. The show on February 17, 2009 saw 3.23 million viewers, which corresponds to a market share of 10.1 percent.

The Spessartviertel in Dietzenbach , which is a social hotspot, served as Marie's place of residence . The house entrance was closed for a few hours on several days during the shooting.

criticism

“Annette Ernst is making the film consistently youth-free; the only veilless scene is actually rather funny when Valeska shows a perplexed regular customer in the supermarket her bare breasts to remind him of her qualities. The story is above all a drama that is further exaggerated because the father-in-law, who is by no means angry for no reason, ensures that Marie life is made even more difficult than it already is "

“Sat.1 quickly ends the excursion into social realism with a conciliatory extra portion of“ Pretty Woman ”romance: the wicked pimp has to believe in it, the wicked father-in-law loses, and the sports teacher, who happens to be unable to father, takes the single mother and her brood on. He may not be rich, but he doesn't look bad for that. Everything, everything will be fine, mumbles Sat.1. "
