Fabian Herbers (born August 17, 1993 in Ahaus ) is a German soccer player . The attacking midfielder is under contract in Major League Soccer with Chicago Fire .

Career

youth

Born and raised in Ahaus, Herbers learned to play football at FC Ottenstein . He later moved to SuS Stadtlohn and then to the youth of the Dutch first division club FC Twente Enschede , where he played for six years. From there he returned to Münsterland in 2011 and joined the A-youth of Preußen Münster . For Prussia he scored four goals in 25 games in the A-Juniors Bundesliga West during the 2011/12 season .

VfL Rhede

In summer 2012 he moved to VfL Rhede and played in the Oberliga Niederrhein in the 2012/13 season . There he was on the field 31 times and scored seven goals.

Change to the USA

In 2013, Herbers went to Creighton University in Omaha , Nebraska , where she studied business administration . For the next three years he successfully played college soccer for the Creighton Bluejays in the Big East Conference . He played 62 games for the Bluejays and scored 28 times. During that time, he was voted Big East Offensive Player of the Year twice .

During the breaks of the college season, he continued to play football in Germany and was always on the field for the first team of SpVgg Vreden , which plays in the Westphalia League.

Major League Soccer

On January 11, 2016, he was selected as the sixth player in the MLS SuperDraft 2016 by the Philadelphia Union . In the MLS, he made his debut on March 6, 2016 in the game against FC Dallas . He played for the entire time also in the farm team Bethlehem Steel in the United Soccer League . There he scored a goal in his first game on March 25, 2016. This was also the first goal in the history of the franchise.

For the season 2019 changed Herbers to Chicago Fire .

Others

Herbers gained greater fame in German-speaking countries when he confessed himself to being a fan of the mixed hack podcast by comedian Felix Lobrecht and author Tommi Schmitt, who have since celebrated him again and again as the “god of football”.
