Fadama

Fadama is a village in the Guéchémé commune in Niger .

Fadama is located around 15 kilometers north of the municipal capital Guéchémé. The commune belongs to the Tibiri department in the Dosso region . The departmental capital, Tibiri, is located about 13 kilometers northeast and the regional capital Dosso about 76 kilometers west of Fadama. The village is located 230  m above sea level on the west bank of the large, periodically water-bearing dry valley Dallol Maouri . Fadama is often hit by floods. The place name comes from the Hausa language , in which fadama generally refers to an alluvial land that is suitable for dry farming.

At the 2012 census, Fadama had 3,603 inhabitants living in 565 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 2,768 in 342 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 3,832 in 557 households.

There is a market and a mosque in the village, as well as two elementary schools and one middle school. About 150 hectares of land are available for growing vegetables . Several thousand cattle, sheep and goats are kept each time.

Fadama is the birthplace of the diplomat Joseph Diatta .
